Joint Entrance Examination Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the JEE Main 2025 exam must meet all the specified eligibility criteria. Failure to comply with these conditions may lead to the cancellation of their application form. Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2025
Candidates must have passed one of the following exams to be eligible for JEE Main 2025:

Year of Passing Qualifying Examination
Candidates who:
- Passed Class 12 or equivalent in 2023 or 2024.
- Are appearing for the Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2025.
Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2022 or earlier or will appear in 2026 or later are not eligible for JEE Main 2025.
Subject Requirements for Different Courses
The required subjects in Class 12 for different JEE Main papers are as follows:
- Paper 1 (BTech):
- Compulsory: Physics and Mathematics
- One additional subject: Chemistry/Biology/Technical Vocational Subject
- Paper 2A (BArch):
- Compulsory: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
- Paper 2B (BPlan):
- Compulsory: Mathematics
Number of Attempts
Candidates can attempt JEE Main in three consecutive years after passing Class 12. The examination will be conducted twice in 2025: January and April.
Marks in Class 12
There is no minimum percentage requirement in Class 12 to appear for JEE Main. However, for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must score at least 75% marks in Class 12 (or 60% for SC/ST candidates). For specific details, visit the JoSAA official website.
State of Eligibility
The State of Eligibility is determined based on where the candidate has passed their Class 12 or equivalent examination, not their place of residence. For example:
- If a candidate passed Class 12 in New Delhi but resides in Uttar Pradesh, their State of Eligibility will be Delhi.
- For candidates from NIOS, the State of Eligibility corresponds to the location of the study center.
For Indian nationals completing Class 12 from Nepal or Bhutan, the State code of eligibility is determined by the permanent address in India as mentioned in their passport.

JEE Advanced Eligibility
To appear in JEE Advanced, candidates must:
- Rank among the top 2,50,000 in the Common Rank List of JEE Main.
- Have attempted JEE Main in the same year.
Candidates can attempt JEE Advanced twice in two consecutive years after passing Class 12.
